La Orillera (2022)
Práctica de tango
BUS - Paragem Cultural, Lisboa (2022/2024)
Organized together with Irene Labat
The project "La Orillera", arises from the need to create a space for tango practice aimed at making known and disseminating the Uruguayan tango in Lisbon. This project aims to bring together the rioplatense tango, that is to say, the Argentine tango and the Uruguayan tango, both in dance and music.
Although the origins of tango are located in the rioplatense region, which includes both Argentina and Uruguay, we note that the diffusion of tango in Europe, Asia and North America is almost exclusively linked to the tango of Buenos Aires. We are interested, without ignoring this reality, in focusing on Uruguayan tango, which in turn maintains a relationship with candombe and Afro influences. These influences are reflected in its dance, music and lyrics, and differentiate it from tango porteño.
We propose a practice space aimed at people who are interested in tango and want to deepen their knowledge. Unlike a class, the practice space does not have a teacher who teaches, but each participant can use the space to share, explore and deepen their knowledge. The idea is to take advantage of these meetings to promote Uruguayan tango orchestras and musicians, both traditional and contemporary.
